Anatomy Department

The Department of Anatomy in the College of Physicians and Surgeons Pakistan (CPSP) was established in December1980 to facilitate the teaching of anatomical subjects to Postgraduate students who join the academic courses organized by the College. This departmentwas located on the first floor of the main building of CPSP in Karachi.

The learning Resource Centre (LRC) was also established as part of the Anatomy Department. In addition, attached to this department were a Photographic Section, an Audio-Video Lab and a Graphic Arts Section. All of these facilities were headed by the Director of the Anatomy Department.

Since March 2003 the main department of Anatomy has been shifted to the first floor of new campus of the CPSP Regional Centre, Islamabad. This Center is located at Ravi road in G-8/3 Sector of Islamabadadjacent to the Pakistan Institute of Medical Sciences (PIMS). PhotographicSection, Artist's Section, Audio-Video Lab and part of the Learning ResourceCentre (LRC-I) have been retained in the main CPSP building at Karachi.

The Department of Anatomy at the CPSP Regional Centre at Islamabad now offers courses leading to Postgraduatequalification in Anatomical Sciences.The Postgraduate qualification at present is designated as FCPS Anatomy. This programme requires original researchwork of Ph.D. level plus coursework in the subject. This is a minimum 3-year programmefor those who have passed FCPS Part-I in Basic Sciences Group or other designated group or a minimum2-year programme for those who possess M.Phii in Anatomy.

Department of Anatomy at Islamabad has a well-equipped Histology Lab., Anatomy Museum, Animal Room for experimental research, Self-Learning area where video cassettes, CDs on anatomical subject and MEDLINE facilities, from 1966 to-date, are available to theparticipantsQf the postgraduate programme. Postgraduate Students Room has nine modular seats for the full-time students, equipped with the latest computer system network and Worldwide Web facilities. The department has closed circuit TV for demonstration of Histology, Embryology and Neuroanatomy slides and video presentation equipment for demonstration of Gross Anatomy specimens.The department has digital still camera, high quality scanner, colour printer, CD and DVD preparing facilities for the preparation of high quality material for presentation, publication, theses and teaching slides.

The Department has an experienced Director, well-qualified to supervise FCPS Programmein Anatomy.
