The Research and Training Monitoring Cell (RTMC) was created in 1991 with the primary objective of registered and monitored training of the post graduate candidates of various specialties, working in different parts of Pakistan and abroad. Initially the responsibilities included the conduction and organization of various courses in Basic Medical Sciences. Also special courses were conducted in various specialties to help the trainees overcome their difficulties. These courses were facilitated by the experts and specialists of the respective fields. In addition to the registration of the candidates for their post graduate training requirements RTMC is involved with the process of accreditation of the Supervisors for the purpose of monitored training of the candidates for the following post graduate exams conducted by the CPSP.
Objectives of the RTMC
Activities of the RTMCAs soon as the result of FCPS part I is announced, RTMC sends letters to the candidates to apply for registration as soon as they get a training slot. The letter also contains required baseline information for the candidate to plan their training accordingly and consult prospectus for further details about their respective specialties. They are also informed to visit CPSP website for updates and information. RTMC is involved with the registration of the candidates for FCPS II training who are working abroad e.g. in U.K, Kingdom of Saudi Arabia and Nepal, subject to the approval of their Institute/Hospitals and Supervisors by the CPSP for the same. For this purpose the candidate has to send a letter from the respective country showing that particular institute is approved for Post Graduate training by the national authorities. The candidates are also required to submit a detailed CV of the Supervisor with whom they are going to be affiliated with for training. The Supervisor must have a post fellowship experience of five years and he should hold FCPS, FRCS, FRCP, FRCOG and Diplomat American Board or equivalent qualifications and meet other CPSP requirements for approval by CPSP. RTMC is also involved with the process of approval of Synopsis for Dissertations. The study for Dissertation is started after the approval of Synopsis. The Synopsis are sent to the Computer department for data recording and then forwarded to the assessors (Chief Librarian, Subject Specialist and the Review Committee). If there are observations the synopsis is sent back to the candidates for correction of the same and once submitted back to RTMC it has to go through the same procedure of approval as described earlier. Also synopsis for research articles is submitted for the same process. The dissertations have to go through the same process of approval as mentioned earlier for synopsis. If there are observations or deficiencies in the dissertation the candidate is informed about it and the dissertation is sent back to him for the correction of the same. Once it is returned it has to go through the same procedure of approval again. StratOG (Modules
in distant learning) was started in collaboration with Royal College
of Obstetrics and Gynecology. To keep pace with the modern era and
the developments in the field of Medical education, RTMC has made
StratOG mandatory for the post graduate candidates in the specialty
of Obstetrics and Gynecology. Absolute electronic communications
(e-mails) are amongst the future plans of the RTMC for quick and
effective communications. In addition of the above mentioned details RTMC also performs the following functions;
